When we at Elektro talk about safety, as in the rest of the Group, we are in no doubt that it is our No.1 value. And for that to remain the case, we carry out a number of initiatives. The Report Segurança is a good example of this. It consists of a best practices model created by our own workers in Elektro’s western region. And, since it launched, our daily routine has changed.
The initiative came out of the Comportamento pela Vida programme in which managers carried out a regular monitoring of field work performed by Elektro professionals, with special attention paid to how they performed tasks. We decided to complement this programme by establishing the commitment to supervise randomly and without notice, at least twice a week, the services carried out by our teams. As such we were able to identify improvements in practices as they were being performed.
Also, every Friday, managers, health and safety at work technicians and observers who had already passed through the Comportamento pela Vida programme met to recount and discuss their experiences with the field teams. These meetings were used to analyse good practices observed on the visits points worthy of attention and it could be verified as to whether so-called “critical” actions were one-off or systemic, so that they could be adapted across the region.
What was interesting about the Report Segurança was that, starting with the visits, we could classify the experiences and information both of the simplest and most complex practices. Where we had doubts, we sought support from the functional areas, who always weighed in wholeheartedly to help the team. The final objective of the programme is to achieve changes in practices among the employees through trust and transparency.
The programme is also obtaining another important result: bringing managers and field personnel closer together, and in this way contributing to a better working environment. Report Segurança is a simple initiative, but one that is generating great value for everyone.
