There is no doubt that the strongest motivation comes from inside human beings. It’s what is called our will. It is what turns good intentions into good deeds. It was the good will of the Iberdrola Mexico team that made the third edition of the “Iberdrola International Volunteer Day” possible on 20 October 2012.
On that day, the Villa Hogar home in Toluca, Mexico State, received some very familiar visitors. A group of volunteers from Iberdrola accompanied by our families gave the children that live in this facility something more than toys, food and clothing: time.
We met very early at the foot of the Torre del Bosque tower and set off for Toluca, where we spent a day filled with laughter, hugs and games. The day commenced with a delicious breakfast in the home canteen, where the children charged up their batteries so that they could enjoy the rest of the activities we had organised for them that day.Image may be NSFW.

It was a very special Saturday. The girls pretended to be princesses with hearts on their foreheads and hair bands in their hair. The boys preferred to dress up as rock stars. For the youngest ones, we organised games of dexterity and painting so that they could let the imagination take flight. The older children formed teams for a football match. All of these activities continued until the music started in the centre of the home, calling all the children together and creating an atmosphere of happiness.
At the end of the day, all of the volunteers left the home filled with the love of the Villa Hogar children’s smiles. On “Iberdrola’s International Volunteer Day”, they reminded us that if we are to make the world a better place, we should start on our own doorsteps. That day, the team of volunteers from Iberdrola Mexico used our time to build a better world.
