I’ve been asked to try to convince my colleagues in the Iberdrola Group of the advantages of the Savia programme (*). To encourage them to sign up and get involved. They’re crazy!
I wouldn’t dream of doing that. What on earth would I do that for? So that I won’t be able to do the courses because there are no more vacancies left? So that everyone signs up for the face-to-face workshops and I’m left out? So that I can’t even attend the conferences and see a genius of communication giving a once-in-a-lifetime talk because the auditorium is overflowing with people?
No way! I’m very selfish. I want to keep the good things to myself. I think Savia is too good to share. It should be kept secret, so that only a privileged few can receive this highly effective and comprehensive training in total comfort.
No way! The company has invested a lot of resources on looking for the best trainers, the best communicators… and now everyone will be able to benefit from them?
No way!
I would even have to encourage you to give up half an hour of your lives to draw up your personal training plan for the following year. Half an hour!!!! Do you know how many Whatsapp messages you can send in 30 minutes? Or how many Powerpoints with the best photos of Alaska you can look at? Or how many videos of cats with distorted voices telling jokes? You see: they’re totally crazy!!!
And all that “effort”, for what exactly? To end up becoming better professionals? To end up becoming better people? Ha!!! Nowadays, in the current situation of crisis, who is interested in making the most of their own resources? Improving their skills? Enhancing their aptitudes? Overcoming their fears? Learning better negotiation and communication skills? What on earth would I do that for?
I wouldn’t dream of telling you that thanks to what I learned in a Savia course, I managed to ensure that my partner and I escaped uninjured from an accident, because then everyone would want to do the same (and although I have a very good memory, I have no intention of telling you that it was on “Team-building” and taught by one of the best instructors I’ve ever met in my life). Or that following a workshop on public speaking, I managed to transform something that is sometimes very boring – a wedding – into a unique experience for all the guests. Or that I’ve achieved more growth from a single conference than I have from an entire year at university. Or that a single sentence spoken in a talk at the right moment was enough to change a (mistaken) idea that I had been convinced about for years and years. Or that I had the chance to meet both male and female colleagues from all over Spain and actually get to know them well, not just by e-mail or telephone. Or that…
I remember that it was precisely in one of those courses that I heard what is now one of my favourite sayings: “If you want to do something, you look for a way to do it. If you don’t, you look for an excuse not to”.
After reading this, I would like you all to be completely honest in answering the following question, without thinking about it: What are you looking for as regards signing up for this: ways to do it or excuses not to?
If you’re looking for ways, you’ll love Savia.
If you’re looking for excuses, you need it.
